The Ultimate Sea-Doo Day Trip: Exploring Howe Sound’s Hidden Gems

The South Coast's Premier Playground
There is no feeling quite like leaving the shoreline behind to explore North America’s southernmost fjord on a jetski. While BC’s lakes are beautiful, transitioning your Sea-Doo to coastal exploration opens up a world of rugged scenery and hidden corners accessible only by water.
Today, we’re mapping out the perfect summer itinerary through Howe Sound, taking you from the towering peaks of Anvil Island to the charming docks of Gibsons Landing, with a sunset cruise around Bowen Island to finish the day.
Pre-Departure Checklist: Getting Salt-Ready
Before you hit the saltwater, preparation is key. Coastal riding requires a different mindset than lake cruising.
-
Marine Safety: Ensure your Sea-Doo is equipped with a VHF radio, signaling devices, and a proper GPS.
-
Tech Setup: Use the BRP GO! app on your 10.25" touchscreen to plot your route and monitor tide charts.
-
Fuel Strategy: Launching from Horseshoe Bay or Lions Bay is your best bet. Always follow the "one-third" rule: one-third of your fuel to get there, one-third to get back, and one-third in reserve.
Stop 1: The Cliffs of Anvil Island
Heading north from the launch, your first major landmark is Anvil Island. Known for its dramatic 2,000-foot peaks that rise straight out of the ocean, Anvil Island is a sight to behold from the seat of your Sea-Doo.
On your way, keep an eye out at Pam Rocks. This is a prime spot for wildlife spotting, where large seal colonies often sunbathe on the rocks. Rider Tip: Be mindful of "inflow" winds in this section of Howe Sound, which can pick up in the early afternoon and create a fun, yet challenging, chop for agile riders.

Stop 2: The Hidden Coves of Gambier Island
Just a short ride away lies Gambier Island. Unlike its neighbours, Gambier has no road access from the mainland, making it a true hidden gem for boaters. Explore the deep, calm waters of Halkett Bay or Port Graves. These secluded coves are perfect spots for a quick swim or a photo op against the backdrop of the coastal mountains.
The Lunch Break: Gibsons Landing
By now, you probably have worked up an appetite. Cross over to the Sunshine Coast and pull into Gibsons Landing. This iconic town offers Sea-Doo friendly docking at the public wharf or the local marina.
Walk up into the village to experience the "Sunshine Coast" lifestyle. Whether you grab a table at Gramma’s Pub or visit the famous Molly’s Reach, the waterfront dining here is the perfect midpoint for your adventure.

Stop 3: Riding Around Bowen Island
On the return leg, head south toward Bowen Island. While many see the ferry side of the island, the western coastline is rugged and spectacular. Hug the shore to see the Cape Roger Curtis lighthouse from the water, a perspective most visitors never get to see. Bowen Island offers some of the best sunset views in the Sound if you time your return trip right.

Essential Post-Ride Care: The Saltwater Flush
Exploring Howe Sound is an unforgettable experience, but saltwater requires extra attention to ensure the longevity of your machine.
Once you’re back on the trailer, a thorough saltwater flush of the engine and a deep washdown of the hull and mechanical components are non-negotiable to prevent corrosion. At Greater Vancouver Powersports, we recommend a professional post-saltwater inspection to keep your cooling system and sacrificial anodes in peak condition.
